No Compression Socks at KONA
Posted by FLATOUT JIM in ironman

As reported by TriJuice dot com, The World Triathlon Corporation has ruled that compression socks will not be allowed at this year's World Championship in KONA, and it’s about time.
The reasoning is that the socks cover the age group marking on the back of the calf which is in violation of the rules already in existence.
For my part, I just think they are plain ugly and funny looking. They are ugly on overweight 50 year old men on beaches in Florida who continue to wear them with Hawaiian shirts and sandals; they were ugly in 1976 at the Montreal Olympics; and they are ugly on triathletes of all ages, and I refuse to wear them. Notice the cute girl in the bikini in the background of the picture above, NO COMPRESSION SOCKS.
So if and when I ever get to KNOA, I am now on a level playing field with all the other competitors, that is if they even provide an advantage. If they don’t aid in endurance athletic performance, it doesn’t matter anyway.
My prediction is that their demise will be short lived, and that the Compression Socks Companies will come up with a race version that will still provide compression, allow the race number to still be seen on the calf, through the compression material, will last for only one race, and will cost twice what regular compression socks cost.
Even so, they will still be ugly, and I will still not wear them.
